Real Estate Agents Act 2008

The Real Estate Agents Authority (REAA) was launched on Tuesday 17 November 2009. The authorities focus is to provide independent oversight of the real estate industry, to ensure a high standard of service and professionalism within the industry, and to provide increased consumer protection.

The Authority is a Crown entity, established under the Real Estate Agents Act 2008.

The new Act requires all real estate agents to have procedures for handling complaints. Following an agent's own complaints procedures may be the quickest way to resolve any concerns you may have.  If, however, you are unable to come to a suitable resolution this way, you can complain to the Real Estate Agents Authority under the Real Estate Agents Act 2008.

If you decide to complain to the Authority you need to make your complaint in writing. The authority has developed a complaint form to help you provide the information required for a formal complaint. You can request one by calling 0800 for REAA (0800 367 7322), or to visit the complaints section of the REAA website, click here
